Visit to Chinese fishing nets (Cheena vala) are fishing nets that are fixed land installations for fishing. While commonly known as “Chinese fishing nets” in India, the more formal name for such nets is “shore operated lift nets. Huge mechanical contrivances hold out horizontal nets of 20 m or more across.
Visit the Mattancherry Palace is a Portuguese palace popularly known as the Dutch Palace, in Mattancherry, Kochi features Kerala murals depicting Hindu temple art, portraits and exhibits of the Rajas of Kochi. The Palace was built and gifted by the Portuguese as a present to the king of Cochin around 1555. The Dutch carried out some extensions and renovations in the palace in 1663.
Visit St. Francis Church, in Fort Kochi (Fort Cochin), Kochi, originally built in 1503, is one of the oldest European churches in India and has great historical significance as a mute witness to the European colonial struggle in the subcontinent. The Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama died in Kochi in 1524 when he was on his third visit to India. His body was originally buried in this church, but after fourteen years his remains were removed to Lisbon.
The Paradesi Synagogue is the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations, located in Kochi. Constructed in 1567, it is one of seven synagogues of the Malabar Yehudan or Yehudan
Mappila people or Cochin Jewish community in the Kingdom of Cochin. Paradesi is a word used in several Indian languages, and the literal meaning of the term is “foreigners”, applied to the synagogue because it was built by Sephardic or Spanish-speaking Jews, some of them from families exiled in Aleppo, Safed and other West Asian localities. It is also referred to as the Cochin Jewish Synagogue or the Mattancherry Synagogue. Dinner & Overnight stay at hotel.

Visit TEA GARDENS and TEA MUSEUM: Munnar has a legacy of its own when it comes to the origins and evolution of tea plantations. Taking account of this legacy and to preserve and showcase some of the exquisite and interesting aspects on the genesis and growth of tea plantations in Kerala’s high ranges. A museum exclusively for tea was opened some years ago by Tata Tea in Munnar. This Tea Museum houses curios, photographs and machineries; all of which have a story to tell on the origins and growth of tea plantations in Munnar. The museum is located at the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea in Munnar and is worth a visit.
Visit Mattupetty Lake and Dam: Another place of interest, located about 13 kms from Munnar Town, is Mattupetty. Situated at a height of 1700 m above sea level, Mattupetty is known for its storage masonry dam and the beautiful lake, enabling one to enjoy the surrounding hills and landscape. Back to hotel. Thekkady is considered a heaven for natural spices such as black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon and clove. The very sound of the word Thekkady conjures up images of elephants, unending chains of hills and spice-scented plantations.
Proceed for Spice Plantation: This tour is a prime attraction of this beautiful land. Plantations of cardamom, rubber, vanilla and coffee are also aplenty. Walk amidst the green, terraced farms in Thekkady, while you hear the murmuring sound of the rippling stream. There are various kinds of spices cultivated in Thekkady. The most abundantly found spice here is pepper. But there is a variety of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger, turmeric and curry leaves on the slanting slopes of the spice plantation in Thekkady.
Visit Periyar Lake – The Lake of the Periyar makes an important site to visit in Thekkady. The main attraction in Thekkady is boating on the lake and the Mullai Periyar Dam. Enjoy boating on the Periyar Lake and experience a view of calm crystal clear Periyar Lake and sanctuary. Watch different wild animals while boating. This splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar River adds to the charm of the park.
Evening enjoy Kathakali dance – a traditional art form of Kerala. Kathakali is one of the major forms of classical Indian dance. It is another “story play” genre of art, but one distinguished by its elaborately colourful make-up, costumes and face masks wearing actor-dancers, who have traditionally been all males. Evening enjoy Kalaripayattu. Considered among the oldest and most scientific martial arts in the world, Kalaripayattu was developed in Kerala. Lauded as the pride of Kerala, it is acknowledged and respected across the world. The training begins with an oil massage of the entire body until it is agile and supple. Feats like jumping, running and somersault are also integral parts of the art form. There are also lessons in using weapons like swords, daggers, spears, maces, and bows and arrows. The primary aim is the ultimate coordination between mind and body. Back to hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.

Later proceed to visit Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary – It is among the most popular bird watching spots in the country. Spread out over 14 hectares, one comes across numerous rare avian species in these parts. Located on the banks of the Vembanad Lake in Kottayam, one gets to see a variety of migratory birds that flock in thousands, ranging from places like the Himalayas to Siberia. White Ibis and several species of kingfishers.
Also visit Bay Island Driftwood Museum-A Museum to display a unique collection of superior quality driftwood sculptures of very high artistic value, prepared through a rare and innovative modern art form, Bay Island Driftwood Museum is located at the scenic village of Kumarakom. After breakfast proceed to visit 1200 years old Elephanta Caves (Monday closed). Elephanta Caves are situated on Elephanta Island about 9 kms from Mumbai’s mainland shore (Gateway of India). The caves can be reached by an approx. 1-hour boat ride from Gateway of India.
Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation operates a nice Mini (Toy) train on the Elephanta Island, Mumbai. This narrow-gauge train ferries passengers between the Elephanta caves & boat jetty. The distance is walk able (about 15 minutes from jetty to caves) but going by this train is fun.
Elephanta Caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a collection of cave temples predominantly dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. They are located on Elephanta Island or Gharapuri (literally “the city of caves”) in Mumbai Harbour. The island consists of Shaivite caves and a few Buddhist stupa mounds. These caves contain rock cut Stone sculptures that show syncretism of Hindu and Buddhist ideas and iconography.
Afternoon visit he famous Open-Air Laundry, locally known as the Dhobi Ghat. Dhobi means a washerman. We will watch the acts of ablution of laundry from top of the bridge overlooking these Mumbai Slums.
Mani Bhavan, a modest two-storied building on the Laburnum Road in the comparatively quiet locality called Gamdevi, served for about seventeen eventful years (1917-1934) as the nerve centre in Bombay for Gandhiji’s activities. It belonged to Shri Revashankar Jagjeevan Jhaveri who was an ardent devotee of Gandhiji and his affectionate host during that period.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India, is one of the premier art and history museum in India. Situated on the southern tip of Mumbai on the ‘Crescent Site’, the Museum building is a fine example of the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. Today this building is listed as a Grade I Heritage Building and has been awarded the ‘2010 UNESCO Asia – Pacific Heritage Award’ for Cultural Heritage Conservation.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) is popular railway station and is a spitting image of Victorian-Gothic style of architecture in India. Located in the heart of Mumbai, the CST is also a ‘World Heritage Site’ declared by UNESCO in 2004. Built in 1888, the station is the grand reminder of the British Raj pre-independence. Fort Aguada and its lighthouse is a well-preserved 17th century Portuguese fort standing in Goa, India, on Sinquerim Beach, overlooking the Arabian Sea. The fort was constructed in 1613 to guard against the Dutch and the Marathas. It was a reference point for the vessels coming from Europe at that time. It was initially tasked with defense of shipping. Fort Aguada was repurposed for use as a prison primarily, some claims, for Salazar’s political opponents. Many of its inmates are Western tourists serving time for drug-related crimes.
Panjim City is the capital of the Indian state of Goa and the headquarters of North Goa district. It lies on the banks of the Mandovi River. Panaji means “land that never floods”. The Baroque Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church is located overlooking the main square known as Praça da Igreja. Colorful villas, Kala Academy, cobbled streets and interesting buildings give Panaji a Portuguese ambience.
Portuguese Latin Quarters – Fontainhas (or Bairro das Fontainhas, in Portuguese) is an old Latin Quarter in the city of Panaji in Goa, India. It maintains to this day its Portuguese influence, namely at the architectonic level, such as narrow streets, old villas and buildings painted in lively colors. The quarter shows how Panaji was during the Portuguese rule of Goa. And famous beaches including Calangute, Colva, and Dona Paula and Miramar beaches. Also visit famous Churches of Goa viz. Basilica of Bom Jesus, St Cajetan Church and st Cathedral. Back to hotel. Dinner & Overnight stay at hotel.
