Mumbai, GOA and Golden Triangle

Day 1 : Arrival / Mumbai / GOA(D)

Arrive Mumbai airport from Istanbul and board next connecting flight to Goa. Meet and assist on arrival and transfer to hotel. Normal check-in time 1400 hrs.

Goa, a state on India’s West coast, is a former Portuguese colony with a rich history. It has a unique mix of Indian and Portuguese cultures and architecture. Since the 1960s, Goa has been attracting a steady flow of visitors — first the hippies and returning expatriate Goans; then the charter tourists (starting with the Germans in 1987), pilgrims visiting Catholic and Hindu shrines. Goa is visibly different from the rest of India.

Rest day free to relax at hotel or roam around the beach area. Dinner and Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 2 : Goa (B/D)

After breakfast proceed to visit the following:

Fort Aguada and its lighthouse is a well-preserved 17th century Portuguese fort standing in Goa, India, on Sinquerim Beach, overlooking the Arabian Sea. The fort was constructed in 1613 to guard against the Dutch and the Marathas. It was a reference point for the vessels coming from Europe at that time. It was initially tasked with defense of shipping. Fort Aguada was repurposed for use as a prison primarily, some claims, for Salazar’s political opponents. Many of its inmates are Western tourists serving time for drug-related crimes.

Panjim City is the capital of the Indian state of Goa and the headquarters of North Goa district. It lies on the banks of the Mandovi River. Panaji means “land that never floods”. The Baroque Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church is located overlooking the main square known as Praça da Igreja. Colorful villas, Kala Academy, cobbled streets and interesting buildings give Panaji a Portuguese ambience.

Portuguese Latin Quarters – Fontainhas (or Bairro das Fontainhas, in Portuguese) is an old Latin Quarter in the city of Panaji in Goa, India. It maintains to this day its Portuguese influence, namely at the architectonic level, such as narrow streets, old villas and buildings painted in lively colors. The quarter shows how Panaji was during the Portuguese rule of Goa. And famous beaches including Calangute, Colva, and Dona Paula and Miramar beaches. Also visit famous Churches of Goa viz. Basilica of Bom Jesus, St Cajetan Church and st Cathedral. Back to hotel. Dinner and Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 3: Flight Goa - Mumbai (B/D)

After breakfast check-out and transfer to Goa airport for flight to Mumbai. Meet & greet on arrival and proceed to visit Mumbai sightseeing.

The famous Open Air Laundry, locally known as the Dhobi Ghat. Dhobi means a washerman. We will watch the acts of ablution of laundry from top of the bridge overlooking these Mumbai Slums.

Mani Bhavan, a modest two-storied building on the Laburnum Road in the comparatively quiet locality called Gamdevi, served for about seventeen eventful years (1917-1934) as the nerve centre in Bombay for Gandhiji’s activities. It belonged to Shri Revashankar Jagjeevan Jhaveri who was an ardent devotee of Gandhiji and his affectionate host during that period.

Visit Dabbawala (tiffin wallah in older sources); is a person in India, most commonly in Mumbai, who is part of a delivery system that collects hot food in lunch boxes from the residences of workers in the late morning, delivers the lunches to the workplace, predominantly using bicycles and the railway trains, and returns the empty boxes to the worker’s residence that afternoon.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India, is one of the premier art and history museum in India. Situated on the southern tip of Mumbai on the ‘Crescent Site’, the Museum building is a fine example of the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. Today this building is listed as a Grade I Heritage Building and has been awarded the ‘2010 UNESCO Asia – Pacific Heritage Award’ for Cultural Heritage Conservation.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) is popular railway station and is a spitting image of Victorian-Gothic style of architecture in India. Located in the heart of Mumbai, the CST is also a ‘World Heritage Site’ declared by UNESCO in 2004. Built in 1888, the station is the grand reminder of the British Raj pre-independence.

They are located on Elephanta Island or Gharapuri (literally “the city of caves”) in Mumbai Harbour. The island consists of Shaivite caves and a few Buddhist stupa mounds. These caves contain rock cut Stone sculptures that show syncretism of Hindu and Buddhist ideas and iconography.
